Have you ever ignored a WhatsApp message in order to prevent your contacts from seeing you online and asking you for signs of life? A contact who is waiting for your reply to their message sent a few hours ago, but you don’t intend to reply because you don’t want to start a long conversation? There is a way (or even two) to avoid this kind of situation, so here are two tricks that will allow you to reply to a message without appearing online in order to prevent friends (or an ex) from pestering you.
How to read messages without showing blue ticks?
Here are few simple methods you can use to read WhatsApp messages without alerting the sender’s attention to their action by triggering the blue ticks.
1. Disable Read Receipts Option
Disabling “Read receipts” option is the probably the easiest method to read a Whatsapp message without notifying the sender. By doing so, you’ll disable the ability of WhatsApp to show blue ticks to the sender that tells them that you’ve read their message. But the downside is that you will not be able to see the double blue check marks when someone has read your message as well. Here’s how to disable it.
- Open WhatsApp and go to the ‘Settings’.
- Tap on ‘Accounts’ and then on ‘Privacy’.
- Untick the ‘Read Receipts’ option.
2. Peep from the Notification Bar
This is another simple method to read WhatsApp message without alerting the sender. Whenever you get a message on WhatsApp, it shows a notification on your notification bar. Simply swipe down the notification area from the top of the screen and you can easily read the complete or partial message from the notification bar without opening the app. The blue ticks show only when you open the app to read messages.
3. Turn Off WiFi/ Mobile Data Connection
Once you get a message don’t open the app immediately, turn off the WiFi or mobile data and this will take WhatsApp offline. Now go ahead and read the message and you won’t alert the sender since you’ll be reading the message from app cache. To ensure you don’t blow your cover make sure to close WhatsApp app before turning off your WiFi/ mobile data connection.
4. Place WhatsApp Widget to Your Home Screen
If you don’t want to go the extreme length of turning off all your phone’s connectivity. You can place WhatsApp widget on your home screen to read the message at a glance. Since reading message via widget doesn’t open the app so you can keep the blue ticks from showing up. You can even reply to other messages without having to send read receipts to the sender you wish to ignore. But the problem of this method is you can see text messages and emoticons only, images, videos, and voice notes are not supported.
To add the WhatsApp widget to your home screen, tap and hold on a clear area of the screen, then choose Widgets. Keep swiping until you find WhatsApp, tap and hold on the WhatsApp widget, then drag it to where you want it to appear on your home screen.
5. Read a WhatsApp message in Incognito mode with Unseen
Unseen is an app that allows you to view WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber and Facebook Messenger messages without appearing online. This trick will not allow you to reply to offline messages, but only read received messages without others knowing. You can then take your time before answering.
Each time you receive a notification from your messaging apps, you’ll receive an Unseen alert that you can customize with different colors. By clicking on the WhatsApp tab, you can read the message and your contact will only know you read the message when you click Reply in WhatsApp. You will then be redirected to the WhatsApp app and you will be visible again.
Side note: the app doesn’t always work properly with groups.
How to send message without appearing online?
1.Reply from a notification (or from your smartwatch).
If you have a device running Nougat (or Oreo, though I’m not sure), the easiest way is to reply to the message directly from the notification. Open the drop-down menu and reply to the message without opening the app, but instead by clicking the Reply button in the notification.
If you have an Android Wear smartwatch, you can respond to WhatsApp messages directly from the watch and be safe from appearing online. This is even the case if you reply to the message without clicking on Reply by just looking at the whole conversation.
2.Answer from offline
Disable Wi-Fi and the mobile network connection on your smartphone. Open WhatsApp and the conversation you’re interested in. Write the message. Close WhatsApp. Reactivate Wi-Fi or the mobile network connection. WhatsApp will send the message without you appearing online.
If your friends have Unseen, know that even if you don’t get an answer, your messages have most probably already been read. 😜😜
