How to view saved wifi passwords on Android and iOS.

Over the course of owning your Android device, you’ve probably connected to dozens of Wi-Fi networks. School, home, work, the gym, your friends’ and family’s houses, coffee shops—each time you typed in one of these Wi-Fi passwords, your Android device saved it for safekeeping and easy access in the future.
The only trouble here is that you can’t view the saved Wi-Fi passwords that your device has stored. Perhaps you want to connect a second device to one of these networks, or you’re with a friend who wants to log in to the same hotspot, but without a way to access the actual passwords that your device has stored, you’re out of luck.
Before we get started, it’s important to make it clear that the process only works on rooted and jailbroken Android and iOS devices respectively (the part about this not being straightforward on phones). There’s no way you can get the Wi-Fi passwords without gaining admin access as this information is stored in the system folder of the device.
Steps of getting wifi password on Android.

To find the Wi-Fi passwords on your Android phone, you need to have an app to explore files which also supports a root user. In this case, ES FileExplorer or Root Explorer will come in handy. However, it turns out that the latter is offered at $3.99. Let’s use the free ES File Explorer.

Step 2: Enable Root Explorer.
The root explorer needs to be enabled so that you can reach the root folders of the Wi-Fi passwords you need. By default, the root feature in this ES explorer is not enabled. To enable it, just tap on the list menu on top left corner.

Step 4: Retrieve the wifi password on Android

Make sure that you don’t edit anything in the file. You might mess up with important data and fail to access the Wi-Fi(s) in future.

As you can see above, we have found the Wi-Fi passwords on the android device. On each network profile, we have the name of the network represented by name (ssid=”{the name}”), the network’s password represented by psk, the network’s access point represented by key_mgmt=WPA-PSK and its priority represented by priority.

Steps of getting wifi passwords on iOS.

If you have jailbroken your device, install a nifty tweak called NetworkList from Cydia. After you have installed the tweak, all you need to do is go to the Wi-Fi settings of your device and you will see a new button named Network Passwords in there. In iOS 7 it will be shown as Known Networks. Just tap on it and you will be able to see all the Wi-Fi passwords that are stored on your device.

Network list is very basic and only displays the passwords. You don’t even have the permission to select and copy it to your clipboard to send it as a text message. You just need to use the conventional method of a pen and a paper, and write it down (or memorize it).

So that was how you can get the saved Wi-Fi passwords on your iOS and Android devices. Thanks for reading.
